Three Vehicle Collision on Pat Bay Hwy 19-30990

On December 16, 2019 at 12:19 pm the Saanich Police received a report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 17 at Haliburton Road. Once on scene, police discovered that the injuries were potentially life-threatening to one of the occupants, who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. As a result, a Collision Analyst was called to investigate and the highway reduced down to one lane.

So far, police have learned that a white SUV was travelling northbound on the highway and approached the intersection at Haliburton Road. It rear-ended a blue SUV, which then rear-ended a semi-truck that was stopped in traffic. One of the occupants of the white SUV was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Two other occupants from the scene received minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital.

Traffic was impacted for almost two hours, which resulted in significant backups for northbound traffic. The status of the seriously injured occupant has improved to serious but stable condition at this time. All persons involved are cooperating with investigators and the exact cause of the collision is still under investigation. Driver impairment was not a factor.
