We were able to identify, locate and arrest the suspect this afternoon. Investigators do not believe there is any connection to the other placed needles in the Greater Victoria area and there is no indication that the business in Saanich last week was targeted.

A 37-year-old woman has been charged with one count of Mischief and will appear in court later this year.

File: 20-22593

An uncapped needle appeared to be deliberately placed on the door of a Saanich business last week.

The Saanich Police Department is investigating the incident that was captured on CCTV from a business in the area of Burnside Road West at Harriet Road on September 30, 2020 just before 7 p.m.

Staff attending work the following morning discovered an uncapped hypodermic needle and a piece of gauze placed on the rear door of the building. The door had been taped-off due to COVID-19. A review of the video surveillance on the property showed the suspect sticking the needle onto the tape along with a piece of gauze.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian female, 30’s, short dark brown hair, 5’6” tall, wearing a white hooded sweater, black jacket, black pants and black flip-flops.

The needle and gauze were disposed of and fortunately, nobody was physically harmed by either item.

Anyone with information is asked to contact either the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321 or the Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
