Theft of Propane Tanks 21-340

Date: January 5, 2021

File: 21-340

A man was arrested early this morning after being spotted hauling several propane tanks in a bicycle cart along Tillicum Road that were discovered to have just been stolen from a nearby gas station.

On January 5, 2021, at 4:40 a.m. an officer was patrolling the area of Tillicum Road and Burnside Road West and saw a man pushing a bicycle towing a trailer filled with five large propane gas tanks. Upon seeing the police, the man then dropped his bicycle and ran away. Additional officers attended the area and discovered that a propane tank storage cage at a gas station in the 300 block of Burnside Road West had been broken into and several tanks were missing.

With the assistance of the Victoria Police Canine Unit, the man was located nearby, arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000.

SPD would like to thank Police Service Dog Jonny and his VicPD K9 handler for their assistance this morning.
